They are named after where they are found in Herkimer County, New York. They are pure light and powerful amplifiers of energy. Some of these specimens will have rainbow inclusions, air bubbles, black carbon deposits or contain enhydro inclusions of water. Similar crystals have been found at other localities but do not have the same hardness or high gloss as true Herkimer diamonds do.
